Not many know the joy, or how blessed it is, or the gravity of what it means, “your sins are forgiven.” There is a healing and transformative power that is released. Instead of condemnation, life is freed, and hope is restored.
This is the wonderful reward God has chosen to offer to hopeless sinners who have nothing awaiting them but a fearful verdict. Instead of condemnation, God offers forgiveness that brings total healing and transformation
Can you imagine how the woman caught in adultery and brought to Jesus Christ could feel when she was told, “Woman, I do not condemn you; go and sin no more”? Can you imagine the relief, the peace, and the healing or transformation the woman received from those words spoken by her Creator?
Certainly, if the woman had less love for Jesus before forgiveness, her love for Jesus would increase after her forgiveness. “For he who is forgiven much loves much” (Luke 7:47). Genuine forgiveness brings total transformation.
Jesus Christ came to seek and to save, not to condemn. The Pharisees, who were ministers of condemnation, never knew the healing and transformative power of forgiveness and were ignorant of God’s mission to save and not to condemn. For this reason, they were offended when Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5).
Where there is forgiveness, Satan loses and God is praised. David said, “If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be praised" (Psalm 130:3-4).
On the cross in pain, Jesus Christ gave His life. He released healing instead of condemnation by simply saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). Forgiveness releases life; in other words, it releases healing. Unforgiveness, on the other hand, means passing on condemnation or a death sentence to the offender.
