The Area Director together with some inspectors and
principals from Ministry of Education Barkin Ladi, who needed counsel on how to
organize a Peace Conference visited Avant Garde for Peaceful Living for advice
and partnership.
In her words, the Area Director
said they were inspired from the Peace Conference that Christian Faith Ministries
(C.F.M) organized in April this year. Although she and some of her colleagues were
in attendance only on the first day of the conference due to their tight
schedules, they picked interest in it and decided to organize something like
that in Barkin Ladi. However, don’t know how to go about it and what it is
involved.
The crises affected so many
things in Barkin Ladi. The School population have drastically reduced. Tin mining
has become the order of the day especially in the mind of young students as
they all want ‘quick’ money. While the male go into tin mining, the females
resort to marriages.
The P.R.O. of Avant Garde
stressed that there is need to see that the Local Government regains back her
status. Therefore, the need & importance of education should be fused into
the conference.
Avant Garde advised them to get a
personnel from NDLEA to speak on Drugs, a security personnel to speak on
security and also to get in touch with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency. Avant Garde also advised them to make the Conference as interactive as possible.
Upon deliberation, the house
agreed that a committee will need to be set up with at least a member of Avant
Garde in it. This committee will be responsible for managing and organizing the
program. There will be a presenter from Christian Faith Ministries. Some of the
papers to be presented includes: Drugs & Illicit items, Peace &
Entrepreneurship, Sexual & Gender Based Violence, etc. However, they will
be subject to the committee’s review.
